Student Centered Assess

It's hard for me to let go of "the old ways"...where everything is---was---teacher centered.
Now, I'm learning to let go and give the students more responsibilities. Assessing oneself or peer assess...really can take a load off a teacher....And, to tell ya the truth isn't that when we learn the most....looking back and reflecting upon it all. All this has been a real learning experience!

Student centered assessment is another way to evaluate students' work. Put in context with the more traditional assessments, we can get a more complete view of students' skills and knowledge.

I agree that we learn the most upon reflection. How many times have we observed students ( or maybe have done this ourselves) whose interest in feedback stops at the number grade. All else is forgotten or insignificant.

I also like the idea of the kids having a chance to evaluate themselves. Hopefully they will develop a sense of "quality" and "effort" that will lead them to try their hardest. The check list and rubric should show them indicators or at least minimum standards.

How can technology be used most effectively
to support and assess student learning?

To me, using technological resources is a finite tool: If you use it correctly, you get desired results. If you don't, you'll get a lot of what you don't need. In the realm of what we are trying to get kids to do, in order to get desired results, teachers must be extremely specific when creating the scope of the intended product. Simply said, if we don't tell students exactly what they need, they will come back with all kinds of stuff they don't.

Technology is most effectively used when teachers are specific about their expectations and output.
